Internship
BROADWAY BAPTIST CHURCH
2 TIMOTHY 2:2
"What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."
Purpose
Purpose: The Broadway Baptist Church internship program exists to help men aspiring to pastoral ministry: 1) discern their call to ministry, 2) define a biblical framework for church ministry, 3) develop their spiritual gifts to serve the local church, and 4) devote themselves more fully to following Jesus Christ.
5 Main Components
-
Interns will read 23 books and write seven 1-2 page papers on various theological topics over the course of the internship. Each month will consist of reading books and discussing them with the pastors and other interns or a ministry lab with one of the pastors where the interns can ask questions and/or shadow that pastor in various ministry activities that month.
-
Interns are expected to attend church regularly: Sunday school classes, Sunday morning worship services, Wednesday night services, etc. Interns are encouraged to join pastors at funerals, visitations, membership interviews, and counseling sessions as possible. The purpose is to observe and learn about church ministry in various settings.
-
The pastors will try to provide opportunities for interns to serve in various areas of ministry that may align with the intern’s interest and gifting: children, students, music, media, teaching, preaching, etc. This provides an opportunity for interns to test their abilities. Towards the end of the internship program we will host a preaching practicum where interns will have the opportunity to preach a sermon and receive feedback.
-
Each intern will join one of the pastors’ discipleship groups for the duration of the internship.
-
Interns will attend the following events during the year:
a.) The Mississippi Baptist Convention Annual Meeting
b.) The Annual Meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention
c.) Shepherds Conference or Preach Conference
