Advent: December 9

Theme:

The Passover

Symbol:

A lamb

Read

Exodus 12:1-28 (Luke 22:14-20)

Ask:

  • What does God command the Israelites to do? (Sacrifice a lamb and puts its blood on the doorframe of their front door) What does the Passover mean? (v. 26-27) (That the Lord’s judgment passed over the Israelites)

  • Why are the Israelites spared from God’s judgment? (v. 13) (Because of the blood of the lamb).

  • Read 1 Corinthians 5:7b. Why would Jesus be compared to the Passover Lamb? (The blood of Jesus, the lamb of God, is the only way God’s judgment can pass over us.)

Sing:

O Come O Come Emmanuel

Pray:

Holy God, we worship You for being our all-powerful Protector. Thank You for sparing us from Your judgment through the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ. We believe that only in His sacrifice can we be forgiven of our sins and delivered from their punishment. Help us to always remember Your sacrifice when we take the Lord’s Supper and think of Your salvation often. Amen.
