Advent: December 10

Theme:

The Law

Symbol:

Two stone tablets

Read

Exodus 19:20-20:17 (Galatians 3:21-24)

Ask:

  • Why can the people not meet God on Mt. Sinai? (God is holy and they are not). What does the word “consecrate” mean? (To be set apart).

  • Why is it important that Exodus 20:2 comes before the 10 commandments? (God has already shown the Israelites grace and mercy before giving them the law).

  • Can anyone keep God’s Law perfectly? (James 2:10) How then can we be justified? (By faith in Jesus Christ) (Gal. 3:21-24)

Sing:

Holy Holy Holy

Pray:

Lord, You are so holy and we praise Your name. Thank You that Your Son perfectly obeyed the Law on our behalf. Only through Christ’s righteousness can we enter Your presence. Help us through Your Spirit to obey Your Word and love You and others as You have commanded us. Amen.
