Advent: December 8

Theme:

Moses

Symbol:

A burning bush

Read

Exodus 3 (John 8:53-59)

Ask:

  • How did the Lord appear to Moses? (a voice from a burning bush that did not burn up) Why was Moses commanded to take his shoes off? (He was in the holy presence of Yahweh)

  • What task does God give to Moses? (To tell Pharoah to let God’s people go) How will he be able to complete this task? (God will be with him) (v. 12)

  • When Moses asks God what His name is, how does He respond? (I AM WHO I AM) What does His name mean? (God is self-existent) What does Jesus claim when He references this name in John 8:58? Jesus is Yahweh. Jesus is self-existent and has always existed, even before Abraham.

Sing:

How Great Thou Art

Pray:

Yahweh, thank You for always answering our cries for help with Your sovereign power. May we be obedient when You call us to do hard things, knowing that You promise to always be with us. Thank you for not only revealing Yourself in a bush, but in a baby. You know the pain we feel, greater still, You felt our pain when Jesus died on the cross to free us from slavery to sin. For this we praise you. Amen.
