Advent: December 7

Theme:

Joseph

Symbol:

A multicolored robe

Read

Genesis 37 (Matthew 27:27-31)

Ask:

  • What did Joseph’s brothers do to him? (Sold him into slavery) Why? (Because they were jealous of their father’s love for him)

  • While in Egypt, Joseph was a slave, accused of a crime he didn’t commit, and thrown into jail. Then, God miraculously made Joseph a powerful leader, saving Egypt from a famine. How have you seen God bring good out of a bad situation?

  • Read Genesis 50:17-20. How is Jesus the true and better Joseph? (Jesus is the innocent son who was punished for a crime he didn’t commit and who was exalted to God’s right hand and saved the world from sin)

Sing:

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Pray:

Righteous Lord, thank you for being in control of history, working all things together for good to those who are called according to Your purpose (Rom. 8:28). May we trust You when bad things happen to us. Jesus, even though You did no wrong, You willingly suffered on the cross in our place to forgive us of our sins and save us from certain death. Thank you. Amen.
