Advent: December 18

Theme:

John the Baptist

Symbol:

A scallop

Read

Matthew 3:13-17 (John 1:29-34)

Ask:

  • Why does Jesus come to John? (To be baptized)

  • Why does John find this strange? (John’s baptism was a sign of repentance and Jesus has no sin to repent of)

  • Why was it important that Jesus was baptized? (To fulfill all righteousness by identifying with God’s people in their sinful state)

  • How do you see all three persons of the Trinity at Jesus’ baptism? (The Father speaks from heaven, the Son is immersed in the river, and the Spirit descends like a dove)

  • John calls Jesus the Lamb of God. What does this name mean? (He is the true Passover Lamb who takes away sins) (Refer back to Dec. 9).

Sing:

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Pray:

Lamb of God, thank You for taking away our sins and perfectly obeying God in our place. Holy Spirit, help us to walk in obedience with love and gratitude. Amen.
