Advent: December 19

Theme:

Mary

Symbol:

A white lily

Read

Luke 1:26-38 (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Ask:

  • What news does the angel give to Mary? (That she would miraculously conceive and give birth to Jesus, the Son of God) How does Mary respond? (She asks how this will be and humbly receives the news)

  • What names will Mary’s Son be called? (Jesus, Son of the Most High, Son of God)

  • What is unique about Jesus’ birth? (He has no earthly father, He is divine)

  • What can we learn from Mary’s response? (How to humbly respond with obedience to God even when we don’t understand)

Sing:

Mary, Did You Know?

Pray:

Father, thank You for sending Your Son to earth long ago to be born of a virgin. May we, like Mary, make time to marvel over who You are and what You do. Help us to obey, even when it’s difficult to understand, for we know that nothing is impossible with You. Amen.
