Advent: December 5

Theme:

Isaac

Symbol:

A ram

Read

Genesis 22:1-18 (John 3:16)

Ask:

  • What does God tell Abraham to do? (to sacrifice his only son, whom he loves) How does Abraham respond? (He responds in obedience)

  • Why was God’s command to sacrifice Isaac so confusing? (Issac was the fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham) Why did God do this? (To test Abraham’s faith) (vs. 12; Hebrews 11:17-19)

  • What did God provide to sacrifice instead of Isaac? (A ram) Who is the true and better Issac, an only beloved Son who was sacrificed by His Father for the sins of the world? (Jesus) (John 1:29)

Sing:

Trust and Obey

Pray:

Father, thank You for giving us Your only Son, Jesus, whom You loved, as a lamb to be sacrificed for our sins. Although we deserve to die because of our sins, Jesus took our place and our penalty when He died on the altar of the cross. Like Abraham, may we trust and obey you no matter the cost. Amen.
