Advent: December 3

Theme:

The Flood

Symbol:

A rainbow

Read

Genesis 6:9-9:17 (Matthew 24:36-44)

Ask:

  • What did God command Noah to do, and why? (build an ark)

  • How long were Noah and his family on the ark? (at least a year) How do you think they felt?

  • Reread Genesis 9:8-17. What is a covenant? (A covenant is an agreement between two parties that creates or continues a relationship) Did man deserve this covenant? (see 8:21) What did God promise and what is the sign of this covenant that we see even today? (He would never flood the earth again; the rainbow)

  • In light of Jesus’ words in Matthew, what can we expect of Jesus’ second coming compared to the flood? (It will be sudden and unexpected)

Sing:

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

Pray:

Dear God, we thank You for keeping Your promises. We know that we are sinful and don’t deserve Your grace. We praise You, believing that our eternal punishment is removed through Your Son standing in our place, taking the arrows from Your bow of judgment on Himself. Joyfully we adore Thee. Amen.
